Let me begin by stating that I am a HUGE fan of Resident Evil. The excitement of seeing Resident Evil 2 remade with such amazing graphics and slick gameplay makes me think that 2019 truly is a great time to be alive. To celebrate the release of the game this week I played the “1-Shot Demo”. Here is what I think.
Obviously I don’t want to give too much away for those still wanting to experience the demo for themselves but WOW. This 30 minute experience proves that the classic Resident Evil games can exist in the 3rd person shooter format and still be scary as hell. The dark, narrow corridors of the Racoon City Police Station made me feel claustrophobic and tense at every corner or alcove.
The gore is top quality. All of the zombies look absolutely putrid and when you unload a few rounds into them the damage is visible. There are so many delightful “eww” moments that horror fans will love.
I found very little to fault in the demo. There are some new and improved puzzles so classic fans won’t be running through the game on autopilot but yet the police station is full of memorable areas which will bring back many memories. Some new mechanics like the ability to board up windows will make for an even more interesting game, meaning you could possibly limit zombies in certain areas of the map.
I found the Resident Evil 2 “1-Shot Demo” to be an extremely delightful but horrifying experience. It sets the tone of the full game perfectly and even though I have played countless hours of Resident Evil in the past, I felt like a scared child again.
Resident Evil 2 Remake will be released on the 25th of January on PS4, XBox One and PC.
